Grahamstown National Arts Festival 2 - 12 July 2009
At Transnet Foundation we recognise the need for South Africa to create, to celebrate, to continue to build our unique South African identity. One such way of building a nation is through the arts. It gives value and meaning to our individual and collective lives. The arts defines who we are, and captures the long journey of our past. Yet it is also the source of income for artists; their passion is their livelihood.

National Transnet Internal Choirs Competition
Transnet Foundation engages in a strategic and structured social responsibility programme in the cultural industries. The arts are viewed as an economic driver, and creative industries are enabled to grow and make a meaningful contribution to the South African economy.

Objectives
  • To invest in such arts and cultural activities that will contribute towards the Cultural Industries Growth Strategy, thereby aligning the arts to the growth of the South African economy.
  • To enable affected arts activities and artists to be economically feasible and productive.
  • To contribute towards the economic development and redress of historically disadvantaged artists enabling them to become active in main stream arts activities.
  • To use choral music as a platform in the workplace that boosts employee morale and contributes towards the creation of Transnet as one company.
